Carlton Cole - the upgrade
Presuming we're going to improve on our 4th choice striker, who's a good candidate?

That Sears chap might be worth a go, if Ipswich don't go up...

Anyone know anything about him?

I think we're going to try and buy an expensive striker in the Summer, so Sakho or Valencia will become fourth choice.

Way too small for Sam

If he's still here that is

I saw Sears credited with the assist for their goal yesterday. Great to see him doing well.

I'd have thought we would be looking at 2 strikers in the summer unless Zarate is given a chance as we won't be seeing Carroll anytime soon, at least the remainder of 2015.

Re: Carlton Cole - the upgrade
I saw the assist on the FL show.

It wasn't anything special from a technical point of view, but it was exactly the right decision-making.

I also saw a lot of poor decision-making from Premiership players earlier in the evening. (All details forgotten, so don't ask)

I've made a few calls and the best upgrade available for Carlton is a free Nokia 3210 with 100 free mins, 250 texts and 500mb of Internet for £7.50 a month.

Sakho, fourth choice? We could buy three expensive strikers in the summer and Sakho still wouldn't be as low as fourth choice.

I think they should make Carlton a defender.

Looks like Adebayor is favourite currently to be coming?

Suspect Valencia will slip to 4th striker whoever comes in as Alex V mentions.

But IMHO its midfield depth and quality that is more urgent for next season. Mobility and creativity needed desperately in the squad to unlock deep lying defences and create better chances for the front men.

Is Adebayor actually an upgrade? Hope this is made up media bollocks. Completely the wrong age, style and attitude profile.

Methinks that comment about Sakho becoming fourth choice is a wind up!
The idea of AC bring FIRST choice still fills me with dread!

Re: Carlton Cole - the upgrade
Sakho and Valencia work so well as a pair that if Sakho is first choice, Valencia should be second.

Which is unlucky for Carroll, as I think he's a better player than Valencia, judged in isolation from the rest of the players on the pitch.

Re: Carlton Cole - the upgrade
There's no way that Adebayor should be a replacement for Cole. On a loan deal for a couple of months maybe, but definitely not permanent. He doesn't have the drive to succeed once he gets a contract.

We can definitely find a young and hungry striker out there who would love the opportunity to be fourth choice or a squad member at West Ham. Someone who would be happy with around £20,000 a week and who has the same attitude as Cresswell for instance.

Re: Carlton Cole - the upgrade
back up striker to replace Cole:

Troy Deeney - Watford
Kenwynne Jones - Cardiff
Matt Smith - Fulham
Rudy Gestede - Blackburn

Agree Deeney and Gestede, but not Jones and Smith.
How about Calum Wilson of Bournemouth? He would give our main strikers serious competition.

Theres no better option the Carlton FUCKING Cole himself ....stupid to pretend there is.

Re: Carlton Cole - the upgrade
Although linked with adebayour we are also linked with Hernandez and that youngster from Barcelona who both fit the current mentality of Sullivan and Henry.

Sven Roeder 3:44 Sun Mar 22
Re: Carlton Cole - the upgrade
I would love to see Javier Hernandez who has been mentioned recently.
I'd take whatever I could get for Carroll , release Cole and be looking at a younger fitter big striker from Europe or the Championship as an option.
Therefore strikers would be Sahko , Valencia , Hernandez & YoungBiggerStriker

I realise this would probably require a new manager as they would require service rather than 42 crosses

Re: Carlton Cole - the upgrade
We're not big enough to maintain 4 high quality strikers. Someone like Cole who can do his bit when called upon but is otherwise content to be at the club despite not playing is the best we can hope for unless we get into europe. Put valencia at 4th choice, he'll leave and we'll have the same problem next time.

Hopefully we get a new manager in the summer and they'll have their own ideas over Zarate and Carroll. Sakho has to be first choice all day long.

Pagey 3:50 Sun Mar 22
Re: Carlton Cole - the upgrade
I really like Carroll as he is completely unplayable on his day and does offer far more than just being a 'big man' up front.

However, his injuries continue to disrupt any good form and the reality is that with him in the team we do play a more direct style of football. The home games against Liverpool and Man City show what we are capable of and that's what we should be aspiring to.
